Expansion Will Meet Needs of Growing Congregation

Through innovative design, Mason United Methodist Church is meeting the needs of their congregation

Mason United Methodist Church (MUMC) is working with HiFive Church Group on the latest phase of their master plan, 15,250sf of renovations and additions to the existing church. The expansion will help the church better serve their growing and diverse congregation. The project team and church leaders worked to understand the culture of the congregation, toured other churches and brainstormed a variety of concepts before settling on a plan. MUMC needed a larger sanctuary space that could accommodate both traditional and contemporary services without feeling like a compromise. HiFive developed an innovative solution.

The sanctuary uses creative lighting technology to accommodate each style of worship. The space, designed for a traditional service, is transformed through stage alteration and lighting effects for the contemporary
service. The acoustics enhance the experience of both styles of service. “He (Blake Helms, HiFive Senior Designer) helped us take one worship space and make it traditional for one hour and contemporary for another,” explains Dr. George Phillips, Senior Pastor at MUMC. “Our goal with church projects is to understand the culture of the congregation before we begin work,” says Ben Pflaumer, Project Manager for HiFive Church Group at Mason United Methodist Church. “To us, that’s good stewardship.”
